The Council of Ministers of Cyprus has issued an order for the immediate demolition of an entire floor and restaurant illegally built by the developer of the luxury 5-star Ayia Napa hotel.
Specifically, the Council of Ministers authorised the Town Planning Department to issue a permit for the project only if the following conditions are met.
- Illegally erected columns, beams and rooms on the top floor are demolished;
- The entire roof is landscaped to improve the aesthetics of the building;
- a pedestrian zone is created to provide access to the beach and public spaces;
- Demolished a building illegally used as a restaurant in a protected area;
- paid 500,000 euros in compensation to the local authority;
- Issued a temporary building permit for a period of five years to allow the Town Planning Department to monitor compliance with the above requirements;
- compensated for any over-density before the granting of normal planning permission.
