The Cyprus Sports Organisation (CSO) has launched a tender for the restoration and modernisation of the Glafkos Kleridis sports centre in the village of Agros.
According to the notice, the works will cost €3.8 million (excluding VAT).
The project will be financed from the budget of the Public Procurement Authority. It will take 18 months to complete all the works. According to the CSO, the sports centre was closed in November 2018 after a risk assessment revealed serious damage to the infrastructure of the sports complex. In May 2019, part of the facility was reopened with a temporary power supply, a generator provided by Agros Development Company, until full reconstruction could begin.
Haralambos Christofinas, Commissioner for Mountain Development, and Antonis Tsolakis, Head of the Municipality, expressed their satisfaction that, after several years of waiting, the project to rebuild the sports centre will finally get underway.
The sports centre, named after the fourth President of the Republic of Cyprus, Glafcos Cliridis, is located in the picturesque mountain village of Agros, some 30km north of Limassol.
Once renovated, the facility will meet international standards and will be able to host athletes of all levels, from amateur to professional, for both training and competition in Olympic sports. The complex will be equipped withL
- A multifunctional sports hall for games: volleyball, basketball, handball, mini-football.
- Martial arts, gymnastics and aerobics halls
- Fitness centre with gym and sauna
- 25m swimming pool with 8 lanes
- Changing rooms, medical centre
- Conference rooms and rooms for telecommunications equipment.
After the renovation, the Glafkos Kleridis Centre is expected to become a new attraction for all sports enthusiasts.
