The District Self-Government Organization (EOA) has announced a tender for consultancy services related to the construction of the drainage system and a modern wastewater treatment facility. The works will cover the municipalities of Aradippou, Livadia, Oroklini, and Pyla, significantly upgrading the city’s infrastructure.
Environmental and Social Importance of the Project
The project is being implemented as part of Cyprus’s obligations under the EU Urban Wastewater Directive 91/271/EEC. Its main goals are to improve environmental conditions, enhance residents’ quality of life, and ensure sustainable water resource management. Special focus is being placed on the reuse of treated wastewater, which is becoming critically important amid climate change and the island’s limited water resources.
The new phase includes the development of a centralized sewerage system, the adoption of advanced water treatment and recycling technologies, and the construction of a state-of-the-art deep purification station that will comply with modern European standards.
Financing and Implementation Timeline
The total contract value is estimated at €6.5 million (excluding VAT). The project will be financed by the Cyprus state budget and the District Self-Government Organization. According to the tender conditions, implementation will take 120 months from the date of contract signing. Contractors may submit their proposals via the government’s online Cyprus eProcurement platform within 45 days of the official tender announcement.
Regional Prospects
Completion of the fourth phase will be a key step in modernizing Larnaca’s engineering infrastructure. The project will reduce environmental strain, improve sanitation in densely populated areas, and provide an additional water source for agriculture and green zones.
Experts note that the successful implementation of such projects not only improves residents’ quality of life but also strengthens Larnaca’s appeal as a modern European city with advanced ecological infrastructure.
