On Monday, September 29, representatives of the European Investment Bank visited the construction site of the future student dormitories of the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) in the Polemidia area of Limassol. The delegation was led by Vice-Presidents Kyriakos Kakouris and Ioannis Tsakiris, along with Nikos Giambidis from the EIB’s investment group for Greece and Cyprus.
During the visit, the university administration presented a detailed report on the progress of construction. The bank’s representatives expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the work, the speed of implementation, and the project’s importance for social development. They also confirmed the EIB’s readiness for further cooperation with the university within the framework of new educational and infrastructure initiatives.
Scale of the Project and its Importance for Students
The construction of the student campus on the site of the former village of Berengaria is part of TEPAK’s strategic plan to develop university infrastructure and create conditions for affordable and comfortable student housing. The complex will include 500 fully furnished rooms, equipped with everything necessary for modern student life.
In addition to living quarters, the project will feature a dining hall, conference center, recreation areas, a gym, and spaces for students’ daily activities. This campus model meets international standards and will help TEPAK attract more students from abroad.
Project Phases
The implementation of the project is divided into two phases. The first phase, set for completion in 2026, includes the delivery of 150 rooms. The second phase, scheduled for 2027, will provide the remaining accommodations. Thus, within two years, the first students will be able to move into the new facilities.
Context and Prospects
Against the backdrop of rising demand for student housing in Limassol and across Cyprus, the TEPAK project holds special significance. Currently, many students face high rental costs and a shortage of apartments. The new dormitories will help alleviate this issue, making education at TEPAK more accessible and comfortable.
According to experts, the development of higher education infrastructure will positively impact the real estate market and the city’s economy. Cyprus, which is strengthening its position as an educational hub of the Eastern Mediterranean, will gain the ability to attract more international students, investments, and innovation.
