Hermes Airports has signed a contract with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Public Works for the significant expansion of Paphos and Larnaca airports.
The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia. The contract was signed on behalf of the Ministry by Alexis Vafiadis and on behalf of the management company by Eleni Kalogirou, CEO of Hermes.
Construction work, which will be carried out in parallel at both airports, is expected to begin at the end of the first quarter of 2025, following the signing of loan agreements between Hermes Airports and the banks that will finance this ambitious project.
The main objective is to modernise the existing infrastructure and ensure that it meets the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
According to the plan, more than 170 million euros will be invested in the project: 95 million euros for the modernisation of Larnaca airport and 75 million euros for Paphos airport. Work on the expansion of Larnaca airport will take 24 months and that of Paphos 18 months. As a result, their capacity will increase by 12 million and 5 million passengers per year respectively.
Larnaca Airport will enlarge its departure terminal and add new areas for passport control and security screening. The existing passport and security control area will be converted into retail space. Additional waiting areas will be created. The gate area will be expanded with an additional wing to accommodate new gates. This wing can be connected to the second terminal to be built in the future.
As for Paphos Airport, an additional section of taxiway will be constructed in the southern part of the airport to meet all lighting and safety requirements and the terminal will be expanded.
