We are just days away from the opening of a major public space in Larnaca. The new Salina Park will open its doors to the public on 23 November.
This was announced by the Larnaca municipality on Tuesday 5 November.
It is worth noting that work on the park was originally due to be completed in September. However, due to delays in the implementation of the project, the timetable has been changed. Mayor Andreas Viras and other senior officials are expected to attend the opening ceremony.
As a reminder, the park was designed by Elena Sofianu Olimpiu. She won the architecture competition in 2020.
The consortium involved in the project is Wade Adams Contracting (Cyprus) Limited - AKI Constructions Ltd JV. Larnaca Municipality signed a construction services contract with the contractor in January 2023. The contract includes the creation of a lake and fountains, an active and passive entertainment area, landscaping and the installation of new road equipment. The space in the park will be designed to be a great place for entertainment, sports and recreation for the citizens. In addition, the new park will have an accessible infrastructure for people with disabilities.
Hundreds of square metres in the centre of Larnaca, abandoned and unused for many years, will soon be transformed into a green oasis. Salina Park will be an extension of the existing Larnaca Municipal Park. In the future, the two parks will be connected by a third park, which will be built in front of the old hospital (where the Larnaca municipality will move after the renovation). The area of the new public space will be 14 thousand m2.
The cost of the park is estimated at 2.5 million euros. Part of the funding has been provided by the EU's European Regional Development Fund.
