The Cypriot Orthodox Church has invited companies to build a large mixed-use development in the Geroskipou neighbourhood of Paphos.
The new project will include two 12-storey high-rises and a luxury 5-star hotel.
The luxury flats will be in 122 of the skyscrapers. The 8-storey hotel will have space for 236 beds. The Cypriot Orthodox Church has been promoting the construction of the facility for about five years. But the Department of Environmental Protection of Cyprus said no to the Archbishopric's idea many times. And finally, they agreed to the big project. The hotel will have:
- A health centre with a gym, swimming pool, massage sauna and other facilities;
- Additional rooms for food storage, wine storage, electrical equipment, offices, training rooms, waste rooms, and a room for the emergency evacuation system;
- A car park with 44 spaces.
The ground floor of the building will have:
- a reception area
- a bar
- a restaurant
- a kitchen
- a breakfast room
- a newspaper stand
- a souvenir shop
- a bank branch
- a travel agency
- a hairdressing salon
There is also a lovely garden on the roof of the building. The project is expected to cost 100 million euros. The process of putting this into practice will take 2.5 years.
Along with the construction of the hotel complex, two residential towers will be built on the coastal site.
Remember that the project on the land plot belonging to the Orthodox Church of Cyprus was originally much bigger. It was called Eden City.
It was expected to cost 3.4 billion euros. The idea is to create an artificial island called Divina. It will have a marina, a university and a medical centre. In the end, the licence was granted but with big changes to the original plans.
