Work on the new Salina Park in Larnaca has reached the finishing line.
Mayor Andreas Viras said recently that the new public space should be inaugurated at the end of October this year. According to the mayor, the work is progressing well and small delays are justified and within acceptable limits.
It should be remembered that the park was designed by Elena Sofianu Olimpiu, who won the architecture competition in 2020.
The project will be carried out by the consortium Wade Adams Contracting (Cyprus) Limited - AKI Constructions Ltd JV. Larnaca municipality signed a construction services contract with the contractor in January 2023. The contract includes the creation of a lake and fountains, an active and passive entertainment area, landscaping and the installation of new road equipment. The space in the park will be designed to be a great place for entertainment, sports and recreation for the citizens. The new park will also provide an accessible infrastructure for people with disabilities.
Hundreds of square metres in the centre of Larnaca, abandoned and unused for years, will soon be transformed into a green oasis. Salina Park will be an extension of the existing Larnaca Municipal Park. In the future, the two parks will be connected by a third park, which will be built in front of the old hospital (where the municipality will move after renovation).
The cost of the park is estimated at 2.4 million euros. Part of the funding has come from the EU's European Regional Development Fund.
