The Municipality of Paphos has announced the commissioning of an important project.
Now Cyprus has Akamas Avifauna and Flora Visitor Centre in Cyprus.
The new center is located in the village of Kathikas, in the Laon Valley at an altitude of 700 m above sea level.
The 2-story building of 210 m2 is equipped with premises for permanent and temporary exhibitions. All the exhibits that will soon appear there will be divided into zones depending on their theme. Exhibition samples will be accompanied by explanatory texts, photographs, video projections, interactive materials.
The building also has: reception, office, shop, auxiliary, sanitary and kitchen facilities. The entire area inside and outside the building is accessible to people with disabilities.
The cost of the project is estimated at more than 300 thousand euros. Money for its implementation was allocated from the state budget.
The architectural project was developed by Loucaides & Philippou, the contractors were CSG Neokleous Brothers, and The Camassa Touch Ltd took responsibility for the design.

As you may know, last year in Akamas, in the village of Pano Arodes, the construction of the first Center of Geology and Paleontology in Cyprus was completed.
The museum, partly financed by the European Fund for Agrarian Development, is located in the building of the former elementary school of the village, to which a new building was attached. In the center you can see the fossils of pygmy hippos and minerals from the Akamas region and other countries, learn about the history of the emergence and development of Cyprus. The project budget amounted to 520 thousand euros.
One of the important features of the Akamas Peninsula is that it can still be called absolutely wild. This is a rare corner of Cyprus where a significant coastal area remains untouched by paved roads and buildings. This is a place where you can wander for hours through the juniper thickets and where you can still find a deserted bay. The Akamas region is also important from a geological point of view. There are all sorts of formations here. For example, the gorges contain fossils of marine species that are not easily found elsewhere. Therefore, the region is of particular interest to tourists. This, in fact, is what local authorities are betting on, investing money in the development of such projects.
