The Municipality of Geroskipou has closed the tender for the modernisation of the Olympic Swimming Pool.
The municipality, in cooperation with the Public Procurement Agency, recently started evaluating the bids.
According to the municipality, the main objective is to start this important infrastructure project as soon as possible. Therefore, the results will be announced in the near future, after which the winning company will be able to start repairing the facility.
We would like to remind you that the main reconstruction works include:
- Demolition of the old metal structures and replacement of the walls with concrete ones.
- Repairing the coating of the basin and the canal around the reservoir
- Hermetic sealing of the water tank
- Replacement of the electrical and mechanical systems
- Additional repair work
The total cost of the overhaul of the Geroskipu Olympic Swimming Pool will be 360 thousand euros. The Ministry of Economy and the Cyprus Olympic Association (KOA) will provide the bulk of the funding.
The Geroskipou pool is an important sports facility for the municipality and the whole of Paphos. Due to its Olympic standard, it is actively used by national teams and foreign clubs for training and preparation for competitions.
The modernisation of the pool is expected to
- Attract professional athletes and teams from other countries
- Stimulate the development of the local economy - the teams' accommodation in hotels in Geroskipou will increase tourism
- Provide Cypriot athletes with the opportunity to train in a safe and comfortable environment.
The Gerokipou Olympic Pool is part of the Gerokipou Sports Centre, located 3km from Paphos Port. It features a 50m, 10-lane pool, a gym and other sports facilities, floodlights for night training and ample parking for visitors.
Once the refurbishment is complete, athletes from all over Cyprus will be able to train safely and improve their performance in the renovated pool.
