On Tuesday, April 23, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides ceremonially cut the red ribbon in front of the entrance to the new building of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
The event was attended by the capital's mayor, members of the municipality, as well as other high-ranking officials.
Recall that the agency is located in the building, where previously there was a municipal market. Recently it was renovated and expanded for the needs of the center, which is a branch of the company CYENS, specializing in interactive media, intelligent systems and new technologies. The building was equipped with laboratories and exhibition halls, conference rooms, working areas, seminar rooms, a multimedia studio and a production laboratory for testing innovative ideas.
It should be noted that the construction works lasted about three years. 6 million euros were spent on the renovation of the building.
.
Christodoulides emphasized that this project plays an important role in the development of Nicosia and Cyprus as a whole.
The renovation project of the former municipal market building marks the beginning of a new era for the region, the capital and Cyprus as a whole. I am delighted that it will house the CYENS Center of Excellence for Research and Innovation, which will contribute immensely to our economy. Whenever I attend the inauguration ceremonies of such projects, I am amazed by the impeccable cooperation between the executive, local governments and the private sector. I would like to congratulate the Mayor of Nicosia and his colleagues in the Municipal Council on the completion of a very important project," Christodoulides said during the ceremony.
By the way, in February 2021, the Innovation Center moved into the renovated former Stoa building on Municipal Square, next to Dimotiki Agora.
Together, the former Municipal Market and the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center building will serve as the nucleus of the Creative Industries Quarter project, which is already underway and is expected to kick-start the creation of a competitive and forward-looking knowledge economy and promote capital in general as a regional hub for creativity, growth and business innovation, benefiting the whole of Cyprus.
The joint venture is coordinated by the Municipality of Nicosia and brings together two renowned international partners, Germany's Max Planck Institute and the UK's University College London with three public universities in Cyprus - the University of Cyprus, Tepac (Cyprus University of Technology) and the Open University of Cyprus.
