The Paphos municipality has announced its intention to renovate the old KEN Paphos training centre building in order to use it for the needs of the municipality.
Specifically, the municipality is preparing to launch a tender for the project in early 2025.
According to the local authorities, this project is important both in terms of its future use and the historical value it represents for Paphos. The main objective of the municipality is to select several options for the redevelopment, modernisation and reuse of the site.
It should be recalled that the KEN Paphos building and the entire surrounding area, which covers an area of 30,000 m2, came into the ownership of the Paphos municipality back in 2020. Incidentally, the mayor's office bought a large building from the Bank of Cyprus for 2.5 million euros.
The plans of the municipality were to connect the purchased area with the adjacent Sculpture Park and the central square of the municipality, essentially creating a huge single space of about 100,000m2. An environmental education centre, cultural spaces, playgrounds, kindergartens, a park and much more were to be built on the site of the former KEN Paphos.
Unfortunately, the idea was never realised. However, the recent re-election of local councillors may give the project a boost. The new councillors have expressed their willingness to continue the work started several years ago.
