Construction has begun on a new building for the British High Commission in Nicosia. The project is expected to cost around €40 million.
This marks a new stage in diplomatic relations
According to diplomatic mission representatives, this construction project demonstrates the UK's long-term commitment to Cyprus and the strengthening of political and economic cooperation. Michael Tatem, the British High Commission Commissioner, noted that the new complex will symbolise renewal and investment in the future of partner countries.
He added that construction is scheduled for completion in November 2028. While construction is underway, the old building of the British diplomatic mission in Cyprus will continue to operate as usual.

The project takes an eco-friendly approach and will contribute to the Cypriot economy
The project is designed to be completely eco-friendly, with a focus on carbon neutrality, in line with Cyprus's strategic climate goals and general European standards for sustainable construction.
The main contractor is the Cypriot company Atlas Pantou, which will contribute to the development of the local economy by creating hundreds of jobs and using local contractors and sustainable construction technologies. According to the government, there is growing foreign investor interest in infrastructure projects on the island, especially in Nicosia and Larnaca, where business centres and diplomatic facilities are developing rapidly.
Why is this important for Cyprus?
The new building will be more than just a diplomatic centre; it will also be a modern, multifunctional space housing offices, engineering and security departments, and the new residence of the British Commissioner. Experts believe that the project will strengthen Cyprus's role as a political hub in the eastern Mediterranean and boost the island's appeal to international organisations.
