On Wednesday the 7th of August, the Mayor of Paphos, Phedonos Phedonas, signed a contract with a company that will modernise the area around the Municipal Market.
According to a press release, the project includes the repair of the road, the provision of pavements, the installation of comfortable benches and modern street lighting, and the creation of a viewing platform overlooking the sea. The existing market and public toilets will also be demolished.
In their place will be a new covered market with modern metal stalls, protected from the sun and rain, surrounded on one side of the street by wooden shutters. There will also be a restaurant with a covered area and an outdoor terrace. The remaining space next to the building will be transformed into a spacious square with benches and landscaping.
The project aims to create an attractive place for both locals and tourists. The work will start soon and will take about eight months.
The cost of the project is estimated at 993,650 euros including VAT. The project will be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
