The EAC confirmed the resumption of its large-scale smart meter installation program, which began in 2024. Starting Monday, October 6, 2025, EAC technicians began replacing old meters in residential and commercial buildings across the island — including Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, and the free areas of Famagusta.
Smart meters will allow consumers to monitor their electricity usage in real time, optimize expenses, and improve the energy efficiency of homes and businesses. The new system will also enable remote control and help prevent grid overloads.
Where and when installation will take place
The replacement work will be carried out in stages across various districts.
In the capital, Nicosia, installations will start in the Lakatamia and Strovolos areas, within the streets of Spyrou Kyprianou, Tseriou, Ippokratous, and Agion Georgios.
In Limassol, installation will take place north of the port and around Vukurestiou Street.
In Larnaca, the work will cover areas between Griva Digeni and Faneromeni Avenues, and Nikou Pattichi Street.
In the free Famagusta areas, meter replacement is planned in Paralimni — along First of April Avenue and in the Agia Triada area. In Paphos, EAC teams will be working along Tombs of the Kings and Agion Anargyron Avenues, as well as in the central districts near the Kings Avenue Mall.
Temporary outages and safety measures
EAC reminds consumers that temporary power interruptions may occur during meter replacement. Each interruption is expected to last no longer than 20 minutes and is necessary to ensure safe technical operations. The Electricity Authority apologizes for any inconvenience and advises residents to unplug household appliances during the replacement process.
Modern technology for a sustainable future
The smart meter project is part of Cyprus’s energy sector digital transformation strategy and aligns with European standards for energy efficiency and sustainable development. According to EAC’s plans, by the end of 2026, more than 400,000 homes and businesses across the island will be connected to the new smart grid.
This initiative will not only improve the quality of customer service but also help reduce the island’s carbon footprint, optimize energy consumption, and increase the reliability of electricity supply in all regions of Cyprus.
