The Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) and the Municipality of Polemidia (Limassol district) announced on Wednesday 22nd May that they have agreed to jointly develop a photovoltaic park with a total capacity of around 9MW.
According to a statement from the university, the cooperation agreement was signed by TEPAK Rector Panayiotis Zafeiris and the Mayor of Polemidia, Nikos Anastasiou.
Our cooperation is aimed at meeting the energy needs of TEPAK, the municipality and local residents in an environmentally friendly way through the use of renewable energy sources," said Zafeiris.
In addition, the Rector said that the University plans to use the PV park for research purposes in the field of renewable energy, focusing on the development of new technologies for clean energy production and improving the efficiency of photovoltaic systems.
This agreement is an important step towards energy autonomy for our university and the municipality of Polemidia, and will further promote and develop the use of renewable energy in Cyprus," Zafeiris said.
The photovoltaic park is expected to be installed on municipal land. The project is currently in its initial design phase. TEPAK is working on obtaining the necessary permits.
