Where will the work take place in April?

The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) has announced the continuation of its large-scale program to install “smart” meters throughout April 2026. The works will cover several regions of the island and are aimed at modernizing the energy system, improving the accuracy of electricity metering, and developing digital services for consumers.

Residents are reminded that the replacement of old meters is carried out free of charge. All costs are covered by the organization itself, as well as funded through European resources, including the EU Recovery and Resilience Fund. This is part of a broader strategy for the digitalization of Cyprus’s energy sector, which has been actively implemented in recent years.

Where the works will take place in April

In Nicosia, installation is scheduled in the Latsia area, including the territory east of Yiannos Kranidiotis Avenue — from Agios Georgios Street to Alexandrou Makedonos Avenue, as well as along Agios Georgios Street and Dimitris Stavrou Avenue. In Dali, the works will cover Ilioupoli and Kallithea streets, as well as areas along the Nicosia–Limassol highway from Rizokarpasou and Eleftherios Venizelos streets to the Idalio industrial zone. In Tseri, installation will be carried out across the entire municipality.

In Limassol, modernization will affect the area between 28 Oktovriou Avenue and Archbishop Makarios III Avenue, as well as Griva Digeni, Gladstonos, and Anexartisias streets. In Larnaca, the works will take place in the municipality of Oroklini.

In the free areas of Famagusta, installation is planned in the center of Deryneia, including areas along Archbishop Makarios III Avenue and Stadiou Street. In Paphos, the works will cover the Geroskipou area, located north of Archbishop Makarios III Avenue up to Evagoras Pallikaridis Street.

Temporary power outages

To safely replace the equipment, temporary power outages will be required. According to the EAC, the interruption will not exceed 20 minutes. The company apologizes for any inconvenience and asks residents to take this into account when planning their day.

Such short-term outages are standard practice during network modernization and ensure the safe installation of new equipment without risk to consumers.

In light of recent fraud cases, the company also emphasizes that replacing standard meters with “smart” ones is completely free of charge. EAC employees are not allowed to request payment for installation or maintenance. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and not hand over money to third parties. In case of any doubts, they should contact official services directly.

Why “smart” meters are becoming the standard

In 2026, the introduction of “smart” meters is considered a key step toward “smart” energy systems. These devices automatically transmit data, eliminate errors in meter readings, and allow users to monitor electricity consumption in real time.

In addition, they provide access to new tariff models and help manage expenses more efficiently. In the long term, they also contribute to the development of green energy and the integration of renewable energy sources, aligning with EU goals to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency.
