On Wednesday, July 9, the Larnaca Municipality announced the completion of the installation of one hundred new lockers at the popular Mackenzie Beach.
According to an official statement, this step is part of a long-term strategy to improve the coastal area's infrastructure and ensure vacationers' safety.
The new compact lockers, which are intended for individual use, are attached directly to beach umbrellas and provide a place to store personal belongings. They cost only €2.50 per day to rent. Designed to store small valuables such as phones, documents, keys, and jewelry, the lockers allow vacationers to enjoy swimming without worrying about the safety of their belongings.
The decision to install the lockers came after frequent reports of theft on beaches during peak tourist season.
The municipal authorities have indicated that they plan to expand this initiative. In the coming days, 100 similar safes will be installed on Finikoudes Beach, one of the most popular places in Larnaca.
Our goal is to create the safest and most comfortable conditions for residents and tourists. Municipal representatives emphasized that the safe storage of personal belongings is an important part of this process.
Additionally, the Larnaca City Council is considering measures to maintain law and order on beaches, such as increased patrols and installing CCTV cameras in public areas.
