A new planetarium will be built in the Nicosia district.
It will be the largest not only on the island, but in the entire Eastern Mediterranean.
According to the plans, a distinctive feature of the planetarium will be a bright green spherical dome, which, using digital technologies, will recreate the projection of the starry sky from the inside. Visitors will be able to observe the constellations and various celestial bodies at any time.
The planetarium will have a digital showroom as well as several conference and lecture rooms.
But most importantly, the new planetarium will be equipped with a modern telescope! This will allow the center to function also as an observatory.
The project, which was named T&O Cyprus Planetarium and Gallery Center, is sponsored by Vyacheslav Zarenkov, a Russian oligarch.
It should be noted that this is the second attempt by a businessman to build a planetarium in Cyprus. The first, unfortunately, was not crowned with success. Work that began more than a year ago had to be frozen due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, Zarenkov wasted no time. He modified and improved the old project. The workers will soon start implementing the modernized version of the planetarium.
It should be mentioned that Zarenkov initiated the construction of the church of the Apostle Andrew and All Russian Saints in Cyprus. By the way, a new planetarium will appear just next to the temple. One of the main hobbies of a businessman is art. Zarenkov actively draws pictures, participates in exhibitions, writes books on economics and construction.
“The planetarium will become a place where children and adults will be able to lear more about the starry sky in all details. There will also be scientific, educational and feature movies here,” Zarenkov said.
The total area of the complex will be about 900 sq. m, the diameter of the planetarium is 20 m. It is expected that the construction will take about 1.5 years.
