he government of Cyprus has approved new rules for providing financial support to residents of remote communities. According to the Cabinet’s decision, the subsidy scheme for such areas has been revised.
What Has Changed in the Payment Scheme
Previously, residents of villages located 60–79 km from city centers received €500. This level has now been abolished, and all these communities will automatically be upgraded to the maximum allowance of €600.
Under the updated scheme, there are two levels of support:
- €300 — for residents of settlements 40–59 km from cities, or within 30–39 km but at an altitude of over 700 m above sea level.
- €600 — for villages located 60 km or more from urban centers.
Who Will Receive the Increased Payments Automatically
The changes directly affect 15 communities, including: Agios Theodoros Tillyrias, Alevga, Gerakies, Kalopanayiotis, Kampos, Mansoura, Milikouri, Mosfili, Moutoullas, Oikos, Pachyammos, Pedoulas, Selladi tou Appi, Tsakkistra, and Livadia. These settlements will now receive the maximum payment of €600 instead of the previous €500, without any additional applications required.
Additional Bonuses for Tillyria
Special attention has been given to the Tillirias region. Residents there retain the right to an additional 50% supplement to the base payments. As a result, families living in this area will receive significantly more than in other regions, reflecting the unique geographic and social conditions of the area.
What This Means for Residents
For many families in remote areas, this support is crucial, offsetting costs related to transportation, limited access to medical and educational services, and higher prices for basic goods. The government confirmed that all applications submitted in 2025 within the set deadlines will be automatically reviewed, and residents will receive the new amounts without any additional actions.
Economists note that such measures not only support rural communities but also help slow population migration to cities, maintaining a balance between urbanization and the development of remote regions in Cyprus.
