The number of overnight stays in short-stay tourist establishments in Cyprus increased by 23.8 per cent in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
This is according to new data released by Eurostat on Monday 29th July.
It should be noted that the report was compiled using data from platforms such as Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group and TripAdvisor. In the EU, the number of nights booked via these online services totalled 123.7 million in the first quarter of the year. Of these 33.3 million nights were booked in January (+16.7% year-on-year), 41.2 million in February (+19%) and 49.2 million in March (+48%).
In turn, Cypriot residents and visitors booked 760,403 nights for short stays, an increase of 23.8% compared to 612,501 in the first quarter of 2023.
Of these: 200,208 nights in January (+20.8% compared to January 2023), 233,844 in February (+21.4%) and 326,351 in March (+28.4%).
All EU countries recorded an increase in tourist overnight stays compared to 2023. The significant increase is due to the recovery of international tourism. Compared with 2023, the number of nights spent by foreign tourists in an EU country rose by 22.5%, to 46%.
