Paul Gauguin Park inaugurated in Limassol

On Sunday 12 May, a new park was inaugurated in Limassol on Paul Gauguin Street (next to My Mall Limassol).

The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Limassol, Nikos Nikolaidis, the Minister of Agriculture and the Environment, Maria Panayiotou, and a number of other senior officials.

We all feel great satisfaction every time a new project is completed. It is with great pleasure that I am here today to inaugurate this original park, which will beautify Limassol and create a welcoming green paradise for our citizens. First of all, I would like to congratulate all those who have contributed to the development of this space. Their efforts are crucial for the modernisation of the area and the improvement of the quality of life of the city's residents, especially the Zakaki area," said the Mayor of Limassol.

For her part, Panayiotou noted that human activities, while bringing development and progress to local societies, put significant pressure on biodiversity and natural ecosystems. Solving these problems requires collective action and cooperation at all levels of society, from governmental and non-governmental organisations to ordinary citizens.

Let us remind you that the new park covers an area of 10,000 m2. It is one of the largest in the western part of the city.

The architectural project was designed by the ANBAU studio, headed by Alexandros Christofinis, in collaboration with Stelios Lakkotrypis and Maria Lianou. Inspired by the paintings of Gauguin, after whom the street adjacent to the future park is named, the architects developed a design based on simplicity and serenity. They wanted the landscape to be characterised by bright colours.

Hundreds of trees and shrubs have been planted in the new park, with pedestrian paths for walking, shady places for relaxing and socialising, areas for sports, active games and cultural events. The new park is expected to improve the microclimate of the area.

A circle has been chosen as the dominant element of the park's composition, which will be placed in the centre. On three sides of the triangular part there are slopes with a slight incline, which converge in a circle to form a low hill. This makes the layout of the park clearer to visitors and the architecture more interesting and impressive. In addition, the hill creates a sound barrier for the neighbouring houses. The park has three entrances on different sides, with paths leading to the centre of the park.

The cost of the project is estimated at 600,000 euros.
