Parking at GSO Sports Park in Limassol to Be Expanded

Limassol Municipality has announced a tender for the expansion of the parking area near GSO Sports Park, located on 28 October Avenue along the city’s seafront. The project is aimed at improving transport infrastructure in one of the busiest areas of the city, which experiences heavy traffic on a daily basis. The estimated value of the contract is €200,000. The tender was published on August 5, 2026, and applications will be accepted until September 18, 2026.

According to the municipality, the need to expand the parking area is linked to the steadily increasing number of visitors to the sports complex, which is used by both Limassol residents and students of the Cyprus University of Technology.

When Will the Works Begin?

According to the preliminary schedule, work under the contract is expected to begin on January 4, 2027. The contractor will have four months to complete the project. If the tender procedure proceeds without delays, the new parking area could become operational as early as spring 2027. The municipality has not yet disclosed the number of new parking spaces, their layout or the technical specifications of the project. These details are expected to become available once the tender procedure is completed and the final project is approved.

GSO Park is gradually becoming one of Limassol’s largest sports centres. In 2019, the municipality, the Cyprus Sports Organisation (KOA) and the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) signed an agreement for the joint redevelopment and subsequent management of the site. The main objective of the project was to create a modern sports space open to both students and all city residents.

Today, the complex features football, basketball and tennis courts, which can be used with advance booking. The existing parking area is already struggling to cope with demand during sporting events and training sessions, so its expansion is regarded as the next stage in the modernisation of the facility.

The development of parking infrastructure is also in line with Limassol’s broader strategy to improve urban mobility. In recent years, the city has been actively introducing a smart parking system, upgrading its road network and creating new public spaces to reduce traffic pressure in central areas.

What Is Known About the Sports Park?

The complex is associated with philanthropist Niki Fitidou, who bequeathed plots of land in this part of the city to Limassol. Today, the park is considered one of the municipality’s key sports facilities and continues to develop. The expansion of the parking area is expected to improve convenience for visitors to the complex, ease the shortage of parking spaces along the seafront and provide easier access to the sports facilities for both Limassol residents and visitors to the city.
