Cyprus is a popular holiday destination. Currently, there are around 10,000 short-term rental properties on the island.
Interestingly, most of these are located in Paphos.
According to the Deputy Minister of Tourism, 3,957 properties in this city are available for short-term rental. Paphos is the undisputed leader in terms of the number of such offers. With a total capacity of 17,802 beds, the region is well prepared to receive tourists who prefer self-catering holidays.
For comparison:
- There are 1,702 properties (8,728 beds) available for short-term rental in the free areas of Famagusta.
- 1,237 properties (4,682 beds) in Larnaca;
- In Limassol, there are 1,076 properties (4,068 beds).
- In Nicosia, there are 403 properties offering 1,504 beds.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism noted that the total number of self-catering accommodation options has increased sixfold in recent years.
Most of these properties are located in Paphos. He emphasised that the steady growth in the number of short-term rental properties in the city is the result of the region's tourist appeal and active investment in real estate and infrastructure. The flexibility, independence and convenience of rented accommodation make this option particularly popular with tourists from Europe and beyond.
Despite the sector's rapid growth, some properties continue to operate without registration. Since the beginning of the year, the department has received 52 complaints regarding the illegal operation and advertising of short-term rental properties without the necessary permits. At the same time, the Ministry of Tourism regularly reminds owners of the need to renew their licences and register their properties.
Paphos continues to strengthen its position as the main centre for short-term rentals in Cyprus, offering the widest choice of accommodation and the largest number of beds. This reflects tourist preferences and opens up new prospects for the local economy, property owners and the service sector.
