Paphos has made it into the list of the 100 greenest cities in the world.
This was announced on Tuesday 26 November by the European Coastal Quality Institute.
In its new report, the organisation describes the steps Paphos is taking to position itself as an environmentally friendly city. It highlights the healthy lifestyle of Cypriots, the efforts to preserve parks and nature reserves, and the diversity of flora and fauna. Many of the city's beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag and all, without exception, have been awarded Quality Coast status. The digitalisation of services in Paphos using advanced technologies is also mentioned.
It is worth noting that this is the second year in a row that Paphos has been awarded the title. Commenting on the award, the Paphos Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP Paphos) stressed that this award reflects the ambition to make the city a leading tourist destination, capable of offering unique experiences and preserving the natural and cultural values of the region. As a reminder, Paphos has previously been recognised as the best small city to live in the world.
Among the world's top tourist destinations that have made it into the latest Green Destinations ranking are Tivat in Montenegro, Tallinn in Estonia, Ljubljana in Slovenia, Hua Hin in Thailand, Aspen in Colorado, USA, and many more. The list also includes 14 Brazilian cities, 11 Portuguese cities, eight Taiwanese cities and six each from Thailand, Slovakia and Croatia.
