Saturday 30th November is the deadline for filing tax returns for 2023 in Cyprus.
It should be noted that in October, due to the cyber attacks that disrupted the work of Taxisnet, the Cabinet of Ministers extended the acceptance of documents from the public. This opportunity was used by 306,800 people. According to the Tax Administration, the total volume of declarations submitted increased by 6% compared to the previous year.
At the same time, 315,300 taxpayers completed their returns electronically. However, only 306,800 people completed them. Another 8.5 thousand people did not press the 'Submit' button. Therefore, their tax returns are considered 'Conditionally Received'.
The head of the tax department, Sotiris Markidis, said that the process of filing returns and paying taxes online was going smoothly and without problems. He noted that the processing of all submitted documents will start in December and is expected to be completed during 2025.
Marquides stressed that all returns must be submitted as final documents in order to be considered valid, and warned that failure to do so could result in a €100 fine. As for the 2022 declarations, most of them have already been processed.
It should be remembered that all individuals whose income (before tax) exceeds the amount of 19.5 thousand euros are obliged to submit declarations for 2023.
In addition, individuals whose income exceeds 19.5 thousand euros from rental property, royalties, pensions, dividends, interest and securities are required to file a declaration. It should be noted that if a tax resident of Cyprus whose income exceeds 19.5 thousand euros per year fails to file a tax return on time, a fine of 100 euros plus 5% of the amount of tax due for the year will be imposed.
It is only possible to declare income electronically. To do this, you must first register at the tax office in your place of residence (personal attendance is required), where the official responsible will issue a Tax Identification Code (TIC) consisting of eight digits and a Latin letter (e.g. 9999999999X).
The applicant will be given a unique 17-digit registration number. You will then need to create an account on the TaxisNet portal and complete the declaration. Instructions on how to register on the TaxisNet portal in English (in PDF format).
