fDi Intelligence magazine, a subsidiary of the Financial Times business newspaper, has released the latest ranking of Europe's cities of the future.
The Cypriot capital was ranked first among small European cities in 2024 in the Human Potential/Lifestyle category. This means that Nicosia is one of the most attractive small cities for study, work experience, and career development.
This year, the capital beat Oxford and Cambridge, which placed second and third in the ranking. The top ten also included Bergen, Norway, Geneva, Kaunas, Lausanne and Reykjavik.
At the same time, Nicosia did not make it to the top ten of the overall list of the best small cities of the future. Luxembourg topped it, followed by Cambridge, Geneva, Cork, Basel and Switzerland. Interestingly, the leading megacity of the future was recognized as London. In second place in this category was Amsterdam, in third place - Dublin.
In the category of "big cities" the leader is Frankfurt, followed by Hamburg and Düsseldorf. In the category of "medium-sized" cities, the winner was Wroclaw in Poland, followed by Zurich and Vilnius. Finally, in the "very small cities" category, the winner was Chuk. Limerick and Galway were also in the top three.

It is worth noting that 319 cities and 148 regions in Europe took part in the study. Nicosia was included in the list of "small cities in Europe" with a population of 100 to 350 thousand people.
Recall that when compiling the rating, fDi Intelligence experts take into account the economic and investment potential of cities and regions, the efficiency of business processes, the level of the education system, the convenience and accessibility of the transportation system, the efficiency of the health care system and life expectancy, the number of residents with higher education and other indicators.
