The European organization VaasaETT has conducted a new study in which it identified the citizens of which capitals of the EU countries pay the most for electricity.
December 2023 was taken as the reporting month.
A total of 33 cities were included in the list. Based on VaasaETT data, Nicosia was placed on the eighth line of the ranking. As it turned out, the final electricity price for households in Nicosia was 31.5 cents per kilowatt hour in December 2023.
The capitals with higher electricity costs than Nicosia were Dublin (42.75 cents per kilowatt-hour), London (40.33 cents), Berlin (38.09 cents), Copenhagen (37.05 cents), Prague (36.50 cents), Rome (36.38 cents), and Brussels (35.14 cents per kilowatt-hour). Interestingly, Athens ranked 16th in the ranking (24.33 cents per kilowatt-hour).
Among the European capitals with the lowest electricity costs were Oslo (13.36 cents per kilowatt-hour), Sofia (13.18 cents), Valletta (12.32 cents) and Belgrade (10.48 cents).
It should be noted that the average cost of electricity across the EU in December 2023 was 25 cents per kilowatt-hour.

Electricity charges are the most costly item of expenditure in Cyprus. This is especially well felt in winter, when it is necessary to constantly turn on water heating and heating appliances.
The average bill for a one-room apartment in this time is about 80 euros per month. In summer it is a little cheaper. The price every month can change slightly in one direction or another.
Since the power plants in Cyprus use purchased fuel oil, the prices directly depend on the cost of oil on the world market. Accordingly, as soon as oil becomes more expensive, the price of electricity on the island also increases and vice versa.
