A new private clinic with a capacity of 95 beds may open in the suburbs of Larnaca. The medical centre is planned for the village of Tersefanou, which forms part of the Municipality of Dromolaxia-Meneou. The project, valued at approximately €1 million, has already received a positive assessment from Cyprus’ Department of Environment.
It is worth noting that the project does not involve the construction of a new building. The investor intends to modernise an existing rehabilitation, health and care centre and officially change its status to that of a private clinic. The project includes the renovation of two main buildings, which will be connected by a new covered passageway. The total area of the site is 29,346 m2. The renovation is expected to take around eight months. The exact opening date of the medical facility has not yet been announced.
What services will be available to patients
The future clinic will specialise in restorative treatment and medical rehabilitation. According to the project documentation, patients will have access to:
- post-operative rehabilitation;
- physiotherapy;
- occupational therapy;
- speech therapy;
- basic medical examinations.
The clinic is expected to employ 3 doctors, 24 registered nurses and 26 patient care specialists. The facility will operate in accordance with Cyprus’ Private Hospitals (Control of Establishment and Operation) Law of 2001. The legislation requires at least three registered nurses to be present at the clinic during each working shift.

Environmental assessment and project requirements
Cyprus’ Department of Environment confirmed that the future clinic will not have a negative impact on protected natural areas. The site is located more than 5 km from the Natura 2000 network. However, the investor will be required to comply with a number of mandatory conditions during the operation of the facility. These include:
- the establishment of a safe system for handling medical and household waste;
- the efficient use of water and electricity;
- compliance with environmental standards and modern facility management requirements.
Such requirements are now mandatory for virtually all new medical facilities in Cyprus and are in line with the European Union’s environmental policy.
What the new clinic will bring to the Larnaca area
Tersefanou is located just a few kilometres from Larnaca International Airport and has developed rapidly in recent years as a residential suburb. New housing projects are being built in the area, while the number of permanent residents is increasing, including foreign professionals and retirees relocating to Cyprus.
Until now, the village has not had its own inpatient medical facility. The opening of a private rehabilitation clinic will allow residents of Tersefanou, Dromolaxia, Meneou and neighbouring areas to receive restorative treatment much closer to home, without having to travel regularly to medical facilities in Larnaca.
Experts note that the development of medical infrastructure is becoming an important factor in increasing the region’s appeal for both living and investment. Alongside the construction of new residential projects, road upgrades and the development of the area surrounding Larnaca Airport, the opening of a modern clinic could provide another boost to the district’s continued growth.
