A new municipal nursing home has been established in Larnaca. The official opening ceremony will take place on Friday, 9 January 2026, at 16:00, at 8 Panagias Chrysogalaktousas Street. Guests are invited to arrive from 15:30. According to the municipality, this is one of the key social projects not only for Larnaca but for the wider region as well.
Presidential participation and European Union support
The opening ceremony will be led by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. The new municipal facility was implemented under the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALEIA 2021–2027” with co-financing from the European Union. EU support made it possible to introduce modern standards of elderly care and to create infrastructure that meets best European practices.
Modern conditions and comfort for older people
The municipal nursing home in Larnaca is a modern and welcoming facility designed to meet all the needs of senior citizens. The building is equipped with innovative support systems that ensure the safety and comfort of residents, as well as spacious areas for rest and social interaction. An inner courtyard with a fountain creates a calm and pleasant atmosphere, while the modern kitchen and dining area are designed to provide high-quality daily meals.
Special attention has been paid to climate comfort and safety: the building features air-conditioning systems, underfloor heating, and modern security systems. The facility is fully adapted for people with disabilities, making it accessible to all categories of elderly citizens.

Social mission and importance of the project for the city
The nursing home is designed to accommodate up to 48 residents and will operate on the basis of social and humanitarian criteria. This approach reflects the strategy of the Larnaca municipality aimed at supporting vulnerable groups and improving the quality of life of the city’s elderly residents. Against the backdrop of an ageing population in Cyprus and the growing need for professional elderly care, such projects are becoming increasingly important.
The total construction cost amounted to €3.5 million. This facility is yet another confirmation of Larnaca’s commitment to developing a modern, safe, and socially oriented urban infrastructure. Municipal authorities emphasize that the new nursing home is not just a building, but an important element of a long-term policy of care for people who have contributed to the development of the city and the country.
