Located in the municipality of Pegeia, near the famous Akamas Nature Reserve, construction of the private school is set to begin soon. The Cyprus Department of Environment has officially approved the project, which includes an academic building, sports facilities, a swimming pool, parking areas, and landscaped green zones. The total investment is estimated at around €5 million.
Although the school will be situated near the protected Natura 2000 nature area, it has been designed to avoid any negative environmental impact.
A space for growth and development
The new school will accommodate 770 people, including students and staff. It will include a kindergarten for 200 children and a primary school for 500 students. The premises will feature an indoor sports center, an open-air swimming pool (30x17 m), a football field, and two basketball courts.
To ensure accessibility, the site will have 255 parking spaces, including areas designated for people with disabilities. The total building area will cover 6,300 m², while open sports and recreational zones will occupy over 5,600 m². In total, the project will span approximately 17,500 m².
Special attention has been given to maintaining ecological balance. The grounds will include landscaped areas with shady trees, particularly along Stephanou Kyriakou Avenue and in the southeastern section of the complex.
Environmental technologies and sustainable development
The new school is designed as a model of sustainable architecture. A biological wastewater treatment plant will be built on the southwest side of the site. The treated water will be reused for irrigation and maintenance of the green areas, and—with the consent of local landowners—may also be used for agricultural purposes nearby.
Technical rooms and energy systems will be located beneath the school building to ensure its energy efficiency. The project will incorporate modern energy-saving systems and low-carbon materials that comply with European Union sustainability standards.
Impact on the region and infrastructure development
The project is expected to become not only an educational hub but also a catalyst for development in the Pegeia municipality. It will create new jobs, enhance the region’s investment appeal, and provide a modern educational environment for both Cypriot and international families living in the Paphos area.
During construction, part of the land will be cleared — some shrubs and a few old trees will be removed — but a large portion of the area will be re-landscaped and newly planted with greenery.
The implementation of this project will strengthen Pegeia’s position as a municipality focused on innovation, sustainability, and quality of life, while the new school will stand as an example of modern education in harmony with the natural environment of Cyprus.
