The building area will be 4500 m². It will have:
- emergency department with 50 beds,
- multifunctional premises,
- offices for medical staff,
- creative workshops for occupational therapy classes,
- treatment department for drug addicts with 18 beds,
The project will also include the creation of all the necessary infrastructure around the building: sidewalks, roads, parking, green areas.
Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Yiannis Karousos, referring to the announcement of the start of the competition, noted that another project announced by the President of Cyprus will be prepared for implementation.
Taking into account the problems of our brothers who need help, this project will significantly increase the level of services provided to them and further strengthen the health sector, - said Karousos.
Karousos noted that the government took into account that the infrastructure of the project must meet high quality standards, so the building will have an energy class A. The main goal is to ensure low operating costs, reducing costs, and on the other hand, to provide patients and medical staff with a comfortable environment.
The minister also said that the new building will be built with the possibility of vertical expansion in the future.
Despite the difficulties and special conditions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the start of the project demonstrates the government's determination to take measures aimed at improving the mental health of sick people in the country. In addition, the modernization of Athalassa Hospital, the only specialized hospital for the mentally ill in the country, also shows our interest in providing high-quality medical services for all patients in our country, said Karousos.
