The Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia has officially announced the signing of a contract for the construction of a new Cultural Center. The agreement was signed by Mayor Giorgos Nikolettos on behalf of the municipality and Yiannakis Ioannou, Managing Director of Miltiades Neophytou Civil Engineering Contractors and Developers Ltd, representing the contractor. The project is expected to make a major contribution to the development of the region, opening new opportunities for cultural, social, and economic activity.
A Space for Creativity, Communication, and Education
The new public venue will become a modern hub of cultural life for the region. It will host theatrical performances, concerts, festivals, exhibitions, and educational events. The building will bring together spaces for creativity, professional interaction, and community engagement under one roof.
Special emphasis will be placed on supporting local artists, creative groups, and cultural associations, providing them with a permanent platform to realize their initiatives.
The center will also play a key role in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the free areas of Famagusta, attracting visitors from across Cyprus and abroad. Socially, it will serve as a meeting point for all generations, fostering volunteering, education, and lifelong learning through seminars, lectures, and workshops.
Architecture, Accessibility, and Modern Standards
The project was designed by the Ferreos Architect studio in full compliance with modern architectural standards. The building will ensure complete inclusivity and accessibility for people with disabilities, the elderly, youth, and other vulnerable groups.
The Cultural Center will be able to accommodate around 500 people, with a theater hall designed for 450 seats. A parking area for 140 vehicles is also planned for visitors’ convenience.
The total project cost is estimated at €5,096,050 (excluding VAT).

European Support and Regional Importance
The construction of the Center will be carried out under the Thalia 2021–2027 Cohesion Policy Programme, co-financed by the European Union. The project’s implementation became possible thanks to the close cooperation of the municipality with the Directorate General for Growth of the Ministry of Finance and the Department of European Funds of the Ministry of Interior, both of which provided substantial support throughout the planning stages.
Mayor Giorgos Nikolettos emphasized that the signing of the contract marks the realization of a dream that will reshape the cultural and social landscape of the region.
“We are creating a vibrant space for culture, education, and inspiration — one that honors the history and future of our city,” — said Giorgos Nikolettos.
The project is expected to become not only a hub for residents of Deryneia and Paralimni, but also an important venue for international conferences and cultural events. Thanks to its strategic location, modern technology, and focus on accessibility, the new center will rank among the most advanced cultural complexes in Eastern Cyprus.
