One of the largest shopping centres in Cyprus, My Mall Limassol, is about to undergo radical changes.
Work has recently begun on the expansion and modernisation of the mall.
According to My Mall CEO Andreas Hadjimitsis, the major project will be carried out in three phases. More than 60 million euros will be spent on the mall's transformation. Hadjimitsis stressed that the work will cover an area in the Casino Resort area on the western outskirts of Limassol and will include the construction of a 12-storey residential building.
He also revealed that the extension of the south wing of the shopping centre, which covers an area of 2.5 thousand m2, is currently underway. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of June or mid-July 2025. It will involve the renovation of the Zara and Zara Home stores in line with the brand's latest European concept.
The second phase is of particular interest. A preliminary request has already been sent to the Ministry of Urban Development regarding the type of development that will be allowed. According to Mr Hadjimitsis, there is a 99% chance that the building will be a 12-storey residential complex with 7,000 to 10,000 m2 and around 100 apartments.
The final decision - whether the building will be residential or office - will be made by the shopping centre's board of owners within the next two weeks, and an official response from the town planning department is expected in the very near future. The new development will be located to the south of My Mall, near the first roundabout at the Casino Resort.
The final phase of the expansion will include an additional 10,000m2 of retail space, which will be located in the north-western part of the mall. Planning permission has been applied for and architectural plans are in the process of being approved.
Hadjimitsis said that the expansion of My Mall Limassol is not just an upgrade, but a new phase of urban development. It promises not only to improve the mall's infrastructure, but also to become a key growth point in the western Limassol area.
As a reminder, My Mall in Limassol is one of the city's most prominent and modern landmarks. The mall was opened in mid-2009. My Mall is located in the Zakaki area, close to the New Port and the integrated City of Dreams Mediterranean casino resort. The mall features over 120 shops, an early childhood development centre, an ice skating rink, a video games and bowling zone, restaurants and cafes.
