The municipality of Polis Chrysochous and the surrounding area will receive €620,949 in state aid.
The money will be allocated as part of the Ministry of Tourism's programme to revitalise rural, mountainous and remote areas of Cyprus.
The municipality noted that all the funds will be used to implement various projects aimed at improving the quality of life of local residents and increasing the region's tourist appeal. The work is due to be completed by the end of this year.
The projects includes:
- Improvements to public spaces and recreational areas
- Construction of viewing platforms,
- Construction and cladding of retaining walls
- Creating ramps and corridors for access by people with reduced mobility,
- Installation of benches, litter bins and street furniture,
- Developing and launching websites to promote the communities.
Specifically, Polis Chrysochous will receive €32,000, Agia Marina Chrysochous €65,000, Neo Chorio €65,000, Argaka €64,828, Pomos €64,871, Kriti Terra €21,560, Pelatousa €42,000, Nea Dimmatta €64,350, Terra €40,590, Drousa €36,900 and Galia €59,400.
These funds are not just financial aid. They are an investment in sustainable development, care for small communities and the preservation of our cultural identity, the Ministry of Tourism stressed.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Tourism's programme is part of a national strategy to combat demographic decline and economic stagnation in remote regions. The aim is to stimulate the development of local infrastructure, attract tourists and create conditions for young people to return to the villages.
