Cyprus has a number of major infrastructure projects planned for 2025. Some of them are already in the active phase of implementation, while others will only be launched.
This was announced on Wednesday 29th January by the President of the island state, Nicos Christodoulidis, during the discussion of the budget for the period, as well as the government's plans to modernise public works legislation and introduce a new electronic system to increase transparency and efficiency of procedures.
Dozens of projects totalling more than €1.3 billion made the list. The biggest among them are;
- The next phase of the Nicosia ring road (€120 million);
- the equipment of the Akaki-Astromeritis motorway (€107 million);
- The Limassol congestion relief programme (€250 million);
- the second phase of the Saittas motorway (€65 million);
- Modernisation of Larnaca port and marina (€30 million);
- the construction of the Paphos - Polis Chrysochous motorway (€330 million);
- A series of infrastructure projects in the abandoned neighbourhoods of Famagusta (€60 million);
- Expansion of the port of Latchi (€50 million);
- the construction of an industrial port at Vasilikos (€350 million).
The implementation of these projects is expected not only to significantly improve the living standards of citizens, but also to contribute to the development of the country's economy. The Cypriot President said that the government was determined to cancel all problematic contracts in order to avoid delays in the implementation of infrastructure projects.
