Major Changes Await Marina Lachi

On Thursday, July 20th, the Cyprus Ports Authority signed an agreement with the consortium of TRITON Consulting Engineers S.A. & IACO Environmental And Water Consultants Limited, to develop an architectural project for the expansion of Latsi port in the Polis Chrysochous area.

The consortium won an open tender conducted by the local municipality. Three applications were considered in total. According to the contract terms, the winning bidder will be allocated 1.5 million euros for the project development.

During the signing ceremony, Panayiotis Agathocleous, representing the Cyprus Ports Authority, highlighted that it was an important day for Latsi. He believes that the port expansion will have a positive impact on the coastal town and will contribute to consolidating the operational activities of the Port Administration, as well as boost tourism development in the region.

On behalf of the contractor, Ioannis Sioris expressed readiness to implement the project in accordance with the conditions set by the Cyprus Ports Authority and promised to deliver it within the agreed-upon timeline.

Let us remind you that in recent years, there has been a significant increase in demand for berths for pleasure boats in Latsi.

Therefore, it was decided to equip the marina with additional docks, mooring places, and breakwaters.

A budget of 53.5 million euros has been allocated for these purposes.

According to the Minister of Transport, Yiannis Karousos, the decision to expand the port was made considering the trend and growing interest in maritime tourism in the Mediterranean and specifically in Cyprus. It should be noted that Latsi is currently undergoing active development. Recently, a multi-purpose seaside park was inaugurated in the coastal town, including a playground, an area with sports equipment, a football field, a relaxation area with greenery, and a spacious parking lot with modern street lighting.

Additionally, the modernization of the Latsi port warehouses is expected to be completed soon. In the past, Latsi port was used for exporting "Cyprus's black gold" - carob fruits. As a result, several warehouses in the resort area were used to store these fruits. These warehouses hold significant value for the people of Latsi as they preserve the region's history. Some of them have been transformed into cafes and restaurants over time, while others still remain vacant.

This project is financed by the European Maritime Fund, with a total of 2.7 million euros allocated for the beautification of this popular recreational area. All these initiatives are part of a larger project aimed at modernizing the entire region. The ultimate goal is to focus on infrastructure development that will bring together three major regions: Latsi, Polis, and Prodromi.

Марину Лачи ждут большие перемены
