The Makarios Hospital in Nicosia will have a modern interventional radiology department.
This was announced the other day by the Public Health Organization (Okypy).
Okypy plans to create: new facilities with easy access for people with disabilities, interventional radiology wards with more beds, sanitary areas, nurses' stations, as well as other supporting infrastructure. The modernization will include the installation of new specialized interventional radiology equipment, such as a state-of-the-art biplane angiography system that provides specialized diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
Work on the project has already begun and is scheduled for completion in the 2nd quarter of 2024. The total cost of the work, which is part of the Recovery and Sustainability Plan, is estimated at 1,480 thousand euros, of which 359 000 euros were allocated by the EU.
Recall that the procedures and treatments used in the Interventional Radiology Department include:
- Biopsy of many organs such as liver, breast, thyroid, kidney, pancreas, lung, lymph nodes, prostate.
- Treatment of cysts and abscesses.
- Opening blocked biliary and urinary tracts.
- Insertion of dialysis and port catheters.
- Treatment of liver tumors by cauterization with special needles and drugs, chemotherapeutic treatment of vascular formations.
- Treatment of vascular disease causing a bubble (aneurysm) or stroke (stroke) causing cerebral hemorrhage.
