Significant expansion and modernization works have begun at Paphos International Airport, aiming to increase terminal capacity by nearly one-third. The second phase of the airport’s development is being implemented simultaneously with similar upgrades at Larnaca Airport and is focused on substantially improving operational efficiency.
New Rapid Exit Taxiways and Faster Aircraft Handling
One of the key components of the upgrade will be new rapid exit taxiways, allowing aircraft to vacate the runway more quickly. This will increase airfield capacity and reduce delays—particularly important during the high season, when passenger traffic in Cyprus traditionally surges. In addition, the southern parallel taxiway will be extended, improving the airport’s ability to handle peak traffic and operate more flexibly.

Enhancing the Passenger Experience and Current Traffic Conditions
According to operator Hermes Airports, the modernization aims not only to increase capacity but also to improve service quality by speeding up control procedures, optimizing passenger flows, and providing a more comfortable arrivals area.
The construction works have already impacted road circulation around the terminal: a temporary traffic scheme is in place near the arrivals area. Despite the ongoing changes, one traffic lane in front of the terminal remains open around the clock, ensuring stable vehicle flow.
Traffic Management and Safety Measures
To assist visitors, signage has been installed to redirect vehicles, and during peak hours staff are present on-site to help regulate traffic and ensure pedestrian safety. Airport management asks travelers to be understanding of the temporary inconvenience, emphasizing that all measures are intended to improve the passenger experience and secure the airport’s long-term operational stability.
