The Limassol Municipality has announced an architectural competition for the design of a new student residence.
The residence will be built on state-owned land on Voreiou Ipeirou Street. This location is strategically advantageous, as it is close to the city center and an area where major urban development projects are planned.
The competition aims to select the best architectural concept that provides an optimal solution in terms of urban planning, architecture, aesthetics, ecology, functionality, and economic efficiency. The winner will be awarded the right to fully develop the project and subsequently supervise its implementation. According to current estimates, the project budget is €6.5 million (excluding VAT).
Interested parties may submit applications for the competition until October 3. The official announcement of the results is scheduled for December 5. It is worth noting that the jury includes:
- Yannis Armeftis, an architect and the mayor of Limassol;
- Katerina Loukaidou, a civil engineer and representative of the Technical Service of the Municipality;
- Irakis Achniotis, an architect and representative of the Construction Department;
- Irakis Papachristou, architect and municipal consultant;
- Alexis Papadopoulos, an architect and representative of the Cyprus Technical Chamber (ETEK);
- Konstantinos Avramidis, architect and ETEK representative
- Elena Konstantinou is an architect and representative of the Cyprus Union of Architects.
Based on the review of submitted projects, the jury will award the following prizes:
- First place: €35,000
- Second place: €25,000
- Third place: €15,000
There will also be up to three incentive prizes of €5,000 each.
Competition documents are available on the website of the General Accounting Office of Cyprus. Access is free, but participants must register in the electronic system to receive notifications of possible changes and clarifications.
The construction of a student dormitory in Limassol aims to improve living conditions for students and support young people, particularly in light of rising housing costs. The project will be part of the city's strategy for developing education, youth policy, and sustainable urban planning. The municipality expects the new dormitory to increase access to education, strengthen the city's ties with universities, and foster an environment conducive to future generations of students.
