The company Brother UK has identified the best and worst cities in Europe for remote work.
Its experts analyzed such factors as Wi-Fi speed, apartment rentals, electricity, security, and overall living costs. They then used a weighted ranking to determine an overall score on a 100-point scale for remote workers.
Interestingly, two Cypriot cities - Limassol and Larnaca - were included in Brother UK's ranking. However, this time, they were not among the leaders. On the contrary, Limassol is placed on the fifth place, and Larnaca is on seventh place from the end.
The best European city for remote workers was recognized as Luxembourg, which received 68 out of 100 possible points. This is the highest score among all the cities surveyed. Luxembourg also ranked high on other criteria related to life outside the office. It received an impressive quality of life score of 192.9, a high health index score of 75 and a happiness index score of 7.23, which keeps it in the top ten in this category.
It is followed by Olomouc (Czech Republic) with 64.27 points and Rotterdam (Netherlands), which won "bronze" with a total score of 63.88 points. Aalborg in Denmark (63.84 points) and Reykjavik in Iceland (63.72 points) round out the top five.
But the cheapest city in Europe for the life of remote workers was Tuzla, located in the north-east of Bosnia and Herzegovina (76.29 points out of 100 possible). Food in this European city will cost an insignificant 4.5 euros per day. A one-room apartment in the city center will cost 200 euros per month, while outside the city will cost 140 euros per month. For an 85 m2 apartment, basic bills such as electricity, heating, cooling, water and garbage will cost 150 euros per month and Wi-Fi will cost around 15 euros.
Despite being known for its centuries-old history and being called the cradle of Western civilization, Athens was the worst European city for remote workers, scoring only 50.34 out of a possible 100. At the same time, the Greek capital is among the top 15 worst European cities on the safety index, scoring only 53 points. Athens has a low quality of life index of 128.6, a health index of 57.5, and a happiness index of 5.93. They are followed by the coastal city of Thessaloniki (50.87 points) and Belgrade in Serbia (51.94 points). Rounding out the rankings are Patras (52.33 points), Limassol (53.29 points), Novi Sad (53.39 points), Larnaca (53.78 points), Sarajevo (53.9 points), Paris (54.21) and Lyon (54.58 points).
Finally, Switzerland's largest city, Zurich, is the most expensive city to work remotely. A meal in this city will cost an average of 25 euros. As for living expenses, an apartment in the city center will cost you 2.5 thousand euros, utilities are 300 euro, and internet costs are about 50 euros per month.
