Larnaca continues to develop rapidly. Many projects are underway in the city, making it not only a major innovation hub, but also a model for other regions of the island.
Recently, Larnaca was once again awarded the title of 'Green City of Cyprus'. This means automatic membership of the Green Towns and Villages network.
The ceremony to award the green flag to Larnaca took place at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia in the presence of the Head of State, Nicos Christodoulidis. It is worth mentioning that this title was brought to the city by two projects that will be realised in 2023:
- "Redevelopment of the courtyard and restoration of part of the Zouhouri building complex" in the "Culture and Environment" category;
- "Upgrading of roads in the centre of Larnaca and infrastructure for people with disabilities" in the category of "Sustainable traffic and transport".
Larnaca municipality said that the city was initially allocated €11 million in EU funds for development. However, thanks to the clear and coordinated actions of the municipal team in preparing the documentation, obtaining the EU Structural Funds and monitoring their use, the city eventually managed to attract €30 million.

We have proved that we can complete projects in accordance with the requirements of the European funds. The municipality of Larnaca has been described as a 'model' for obtaining European funds," said Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras.
Viras stressed that the mayor's immediate plans for the development of the city include projects such as:
- The restoration of 60 metres of coastline so that residents have a full public beach and not just a jetty;
- The restoration of the former Rex cinema building;
- The reconstruction of Vasileios Pavlou Square;
- Renovation of the Larnaca Central Police Station;
- Implementation of the third phase of the project to provide infrastructure for people with disabilities in the streets of the city centre;
- Creation of a lighting system for archaeological sites;
- Construction of social housing;
- Beginning the renovation of the old Larnaca Hospital building, which will house the City Hall;
- The creation of a folklore museum in the Agios Ioannis district;
- Laying of cycle paths that will link the different parts of the city into a network;
- Beginning the restoration of Cypriot heritage buildings in the city centre;
- The creation of a Museum of the Sea and Culture;
- the upgrading of Mackenzie Beach.
In addition, Viras said that the main priority is to make Larnaca an environmentally friendly city through initiatives such as increasing green spaces, gardens and parks, sustainable waste management, environmental awareness and education, energy conservation and the use of renewable energy.
This is great news for the property market in Larnaca! Being awarded the title of 'Green City of Cyprus' gives Larnaca an additional qualitative aspect for potential investors. The increase in green spaces, gardens and parks, as well as the focus on sustainable waste management and energy conservation, creates a more attractive living environment. This can attract buyers, which in turn stimulates demand for property in the city. Infrastructure development can also increase the value of residential property and attract the attention of investors looking for commercial development opportunities," said Irina Eroshenko, head of DOM's Larnaca office.
