The construction of the new Pattihio Park in Larnaca has recently started.
However, the project was in danger of being derailed as many residents of the city spoke out against its realization.
This turn of events has forced the local municipality to suspend the work and announce a public consultation, which will allow the dissatisfied to make suggestions on how to improve the quality of the architectural design of the project. The meeting with the citizens will be held on Thursday, February 22. During the meeting, the architectural bureau will present the project, and those who came will have a chance to express their opinions on its realization.
The project, which was developed by Chrysanthos Chrysanthou and Associates, involves the modernization of the area between the Pattihio Theater in Larnaca and the Salt Lake.
The new green area will be located on a plot of land of more than 380 thousand m2. At the same time, the infrastructure will occupy an area of 14.3 thousand m2. The park will be the largest public space for recreation and an extension of the Salt Lakes Nature Protection Zone. Due to its size, social significance, and the presence of a municipal theater nearby, the park will attract and serve the population of the entire region.
The project includes the creation of modern park infrastructure: paths and trails, playgrounds for children, fields for sports, outdoor fitness equipment, a skatepark, recreational facilities, a botanical garden, a dog park, and an amphitheater.
The green space will have six entrances, its parking lot, a restaurant, and a circular canopy walkway around the Pattihio Amphitheater. Modern street lighting, sidewalks and benches will be installed throughout the park. The park will be one of the most beautiful public recreation areas in Cyprus. At the same time, it will provide an accessible environment for people with disabilities.
The construction of the new park was awarded to Miltiades Neophytou Civil Engineering Constructors & Developers Ltd, who won the tender.
