KEO to Build a New State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility in Limassol

KEO PLC is launching one of the largest industrial projects undertaken in Cyprus in recent years. The company plans to build a state-of-the-art distribution, bottling, and beverage processing centre in the Kato Polemidia area of Limassol. Total investment in the project is estimated at approximately €25 million.

The new complex will bring together the company’s key production, warehousing, and logistics operations within a single high-tech facility. Project documentation has already been submitted to the relevant government authorities for approval. Construction is expected to begin immediately after the necessary permits are granted.

Why KEO Chose Kato Polemidia

The site selected for the new centre is located near Limassol’s port road. This strategic location will allow the company to significantly improve the transportation of raw materials and finished products for both the domestic market and export operations. Proximity to the port and the Limassol–Paphos motorway is considered one of the key advantages of the future facility.

Industry experts note that Cyprus has been actively modernising its food and wine industries in recent years, focusing on automation, energy efficiency, and export-oriented logistics. Against this backdrop, KEO’s investment is viewed as part of a broader trend toward upgrading the country’s manufacturing sector.

How the New Facility Will Operate

The complex will serve as an important extension of the company’s existing winery in the village of Mallia. Wines produced in Mallia will be transported to the new facility for final processing, ageing, and bottling. In addition, the centre will be capable of receiving imported raw materials, including wine spirits, Eau de Vie, concentrated grape must, and wine bases for the production of alcoholic beverages.

The facility’s production capacity will allow for the annual processing and bottling of between 1 and 2.5 thousand tonnes of wine. Total output, including juices, alcoholic beverages, and products packaged in Tetra Pak and Bag-in-Box formats, is expected to approach 5,000 tonnes per year.

Particular attention will be paid to product storage quality. Special underground ageing facilities will be created for wine, Commandaria, and Eau de Vie, stored in oak barrels under carefully controlled temperature and humidity conditions. This will help improve product quality and expand the company’s premium beverage range.

Technology, Automation, and New Jobs

The future complex will cover more than 34,000 square metres. It will house modern filtration, cooling, blending, and bottling lines, as well as packaging areas, raw material and finished goods storage facilities, administrative offices, and logistics zones for order preparation and distribution.

During the construction phase, the company expects to create up to 50 new jobs. Once operational, the facility will require specialists in logistics, food production, quality control, and equipment maintenance.

According to industry analysts, projects of this scale are particularly important for the Cypriot economy as international competition in the wine and beverage sector continues to intensify. Modern production facilities enable local companies to strengthen their export potential and improve their competitiveness in international markets.

Environmental Focus and Urban Development

An important component of the project will be the creation of a public green area covering more than 9,600 square metres adjacent to the complex. The space will be landscaped and made accessible to local residents.

Today, many large manufacturers in Cyprus are seeking to combine industrial development with environmental initiatives. KEO is also focusing on modern energy-efficiency standards and the optimisation of production processes, in line with European sustainability requirements.
