According to a report released by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, January 27, total assets under management decreased by 2.43% to €9.1 billion in the third quarter of 2024 compared to the second quarter of 2024.
However, an increase of 2.43% was recorded compared to the same period in 2023. The total net asset value was €8.7 billion. Of this, 59% came from AIFMs, 18% from AIFMs not exceeding thresholds, 11% from AIF and UCITS fund management companies, 11% from UCITS fund management companies and 1% from companies managed by external managers.
Currently, a total of 323 collective investment management companies and collective investment organizations are supervised by ΕΚΚ, of which 221 are operational. Of the total number of companies, 222 are operating environments with external management, 33 with internal management and 68 with external managers. The total number of management companies includes 44 AIFM, 49 AIFM below the limit, 3 UCITS management companies and 5 companies with dual license (AIFM and UCITS management companies).
Regarding the investment policy of UCITS, they invest approximately 89.7% of the assets under management in securities, followed by investments in deposits with a percentage of 7.9% and other.
On the other hand, OEE, OEEPAP and KOEE invest 33.1% of their assets in private equity, 12.7% in real estate, 9.8% in compensation funds, 9.2% in OSE shares and others.
Notably, 75.2% of assets under management are held by 199 Cypriot OSEs (12 UCITS, 50 AIF, 43 OEEPAP and 94 KOEE). Of the 221 OSEs operating in Cyprus, 166 invest all or part of their assets in Cyprus, representing approximately €2.6 billion (28.12% of total assets under management). A further 67.7% of investments in Cyprus are in private equity, while real estate investments account for 14.3%.
Finally, in terms of investor classification, 99.1% of UCITS investors are retail investors, while 67.9% of other funds are professional investors, 19.5% are qualified investors and only 12.6% are retail investors.
In terms of sector-specific OSE investments in the third quarter of 2024, assets under management in the energy sector amounted to 505.9 million euros (5.536% of total ESA), in the financial technology sector to 254 million euros (2.78% of total ESA), in the shipping sector to 722.1 million euros (7.901% of total ESA) and in sustainable investments to 85.9 million euros (0.940% of total ESA).
