In recent years, investors have been putting money into developing education in Cyprus.
Because of this, new schools and universities are being built on the island all the time.
Polemidia is one of the most popular areas in Limassol. This is because the largest number of such projects are concentrated there. Today, it is home to the city's largest private schools: Pascal, Heritage and The Island. Soon, the first international Jewish school, the Cyprus Jewish Academy of Excellence, will also open.
This ambitious project, worth over €50 million, will be one of the biggest private investments in education in Cyprus. The Yael Fund will pay for it. This fund was started in 2020 by Uri and Yael Poliavich, a couple who live on the island and want to support Jewish education around the world.
The press release says that the plan for the building work is almost finished and that the school is expected to be given permission by the Cyprus Ministry of Education. The ministry has said yes to the idea.
The building work is set to start in September this year and should be finished within two years. The new school is set to open in September 2027. The Cyprus Jewish Academy of Excellence will be able to accept around 1,500 children each year. These children will come from Cyprus and other countries. Teaching will be done following international standards, focusing on academic quality and Jewish values. The school will teach all school ages, from primary to secondary school, and will have modern buildings and equipment. The building will have modern classrooms, science laboratories, creative spaces, a library, sports facilities and prayer rooms.
Rabbi Yehoshua Smukler, who will be in charge of the school, says that it will become an important part of the Jewish community in Cyprus and make the country an even better place to live.
Smukler is originally from Israel, but has lived in Australia for many years. He has a lot of experience in running schools and other educational institutions. He is currently working on the project and visiting Cyprus regularly to check how it's going.
It should be noted that the area where the Cyprus Jewish Academy of Excellence will open is becoming more and more popular for education and is gradually becoming an important educational area in Limassol.
The area between Polemidia, Palodia and Ayia Filia, along the new Limassol-Saitas motorway, is a popular location for private schools and universities. As well as the schools and colleges that are already here, a new university campus and dormitories for Limassol University will soon be built here. There will also be a special school for children with special needs.
As well as educational projects, a large-scale project that combines different functions will also be launched here. This project will have a total budget of €856 million. It will bring together world-class educational institutions, business clusters, innovative spaces and a residential area with green parks, social and recreational infrastructure. As a result, the Polemidia district is slowly becoming one of the best places in Cyprus for education and infrastructure.
