The dismantling of the gas station on Andreas Kommatou Street in Paphos has been completed. A large green area will soon appear in its place.
This was announced the other day by the representative of the municipality of the city.
He noted that the gas station, which for years spoiled the view of the central part of Paphos, finally moved to a new location. Thanks to this, it freed up an impressive plot of land, which was decided to give for the construction of a new park.
It is worth noting that the relocation of the gas station from the center of Paphos, which had been operating there since 1948, is the result of a long-term effort by the municipality and other agencies to gradually move these businesses out of the central structure of the city.
Interestingly, according to the town hall, the new park will be part of another grand project that has recently started in Paphos. In particular, the Historical Documentation Center.
Recall that work on this project began in December 2023. The Paphos Historical Documentation Center will be located on the site of the former police station. It is expected that the historic building with an area of 950 m2 will be fully restored and an extension will be made to it. The area around the new center will be landscaped and greened.
Currently, the historic site is fenced and the old roof has been removed. Employees of the company N. Gavriel and Sons Ltd, which won the tender, are reinforcing the walls of the building and removing construction debris.
The design of the project has attempted to link the urban environment with the history of Paphos. This will be done through a pedestrian route that will start at the Armenian Genocide Park and end at the town square north of the center's building, where resting places and sanitary facilities will be installed. From there, visitors will be able to access the museum area, through a modern building, where they will learn about the history of Paphos from 332 BC to the present day. The tour will take place both through the exhibits already collected and in the format of a digital tour.
The cost of the project is estimated at 10 million euros. The facility is to be completed within 14 months.
