Despite the approval of an application of Jimchang Cyprus Developing Co Ltd for the construction of additional floors by the previous Cabinet, adversaries continue to actively oppose the project.
This time, the indignation of the Audit Service was supported by the new Minister of Agriculture Petros Xenofontos, who demanded to demolish two illegal floors in the hotel building. The other day, Xenophontos stated that his "Ministry does not agree with the decision of the previous government regarding Sun City Spa Resort & Residences." He noted that the application was approved in a hurry, without taking into account the ecological issues.
In turn, Eleni Stylianopoulou, a senior official at the Department of Environmental Protection, stressed that a study of the project in 2016 showed that there is a limit on the number of floors that the resort can have. She said that the project is located in a protected area, where it is permissible to build buildings no more than 5 floors.
Officials demanded a review of this case by the new Cabinet of Ministers. Thus, the resort runs the risk of not opening in the 2023 tourist season.

As you may know, the complex is being built on the coast of the Sotira municipality near Ayia Napa.
The main problem is that it borders on the Natura 2000 protected area, where there are certain restrictions on the construction of residential and commercial properties.
The audit service found that the project was implemented with many violations. Initially, the developer received permission to build a 5-star luxury hotel Sun City Spa Resort and a complex of exquisite villas Sun City Villas. One of the shareholders of the project is the infamous former member of parliament from the opposition AKEL Christakis Giovanis.
The hotel was to consist of a basement, a basement and five ground floors. However, it turned out that Jimchang Cyprus Developing Co Ltd illegally erected two additional floors in the building, violating its environmental permit and license from the City Planning Department. However, the builder refused to demolish them.
By the way, the land plot in the tourist zone T2a, where hotels up to a maximum of five floors are allowed. The developer submitted the necessary application for the construction of additional floors in the hotel, but only after the work on them was completed. As a result, he was never able to obtain permission, since the application and appeal were rejected.
After lengthy proceedings, Jimchang Cyprus Developing Co Ltd filed another appeal, which was approved five days before the inauguration of the new government.
