On Wednesday evening, June 14th, a presentation of significant infrastructure projects took place at the Larnaca Municipality, with the participation of local officials and representatives of the companies involved in their development.
The first project concerns the reconstruction of Acropolis and Alki squares. The second project involves the renovation of Ermou, Konstantinou Kalogera, Gladstonos, Loukis Akritas, and Orfeos streets, located in the city center.
It is worth noting that the project to modernize the central squares of Larnaca was entrusted to the architectural firms AF Modinos and SA Vrahimis Architects and Engineers. It is expected to commence in January 2024 and last for approximately 18 months. As part of the "THALIA" program for the years 2021-2027, which is supported by the European Union, 3.7 million euros will be allocated for the renovation of Acropolis and Alki squares.
The aim of the project is to aesthetically, functionally, and qualitatively upgrade the area, ensuring smooth and safe movement for pedestrians and vehicles. Essentially, this project will complete the modernization, improvement, and regulation of traffic in accordance with the Sustainable Mobility Plan for the city center.
The two squares, along with the planned projects in the commercial center of Larnaca, are set to become new focal points for the city.

As for the road reconstruction, the project was undertaken by Loucaides & Philippou Architects.
The local authorities intend to launch it in January 2024 as well. The implementation period will be 24 months, with a budget exceeding 4.5 million euros.
According to the plan, the sidewalks will be expanded, unified urban lighting with mast lights will be installed, benches and flower beds will be placed, and new parking spaces will be created, including those for electric vehicles. Additionally, upgrades will be made to the drainage system, and the engineering networks will be deepened. A water feature with modern urban equipment will also be installed in the area where Ermou Street begins and Kleanti Kalogera Street ends.
The Mayor of Larnaca expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the project development, as well as to the head of European Programs Coordination and Development, the European Fund, and the Cyprus government.
He noted that "without the collective contribution, the implementation of these specific projects would have been impossible." He added that "after the reconstruction of the squares and the modernization of the roads, the city center will undergo a radical transformation and become an important tourist attraction in Larnaca."
In the near future, the municipality of the city will announce tenders and select contractors who will be responsible for implementing the projects.
