The Central Bank of Cyprus has informed residents and the business community about the operating schedule of local financial institutions during the holiday period. This information is especially important for those who receive salaries, pay rent or taxes, or deal with international transfers.
Christmas and the second day of the holidays
All banks in Cyprus will be completely closed on 25 December, when Christmas is celebrated in the country. On this day, neither cash desks nor customer service offices will operate. Banks will also be closed on 26 December, the traditional second day of Christmas celebrations, which is an official public holiday in Cyprus.
New Year holidays and Epiphany
On Thursday, 1 January 2026, bank branches across the country will be closed due to the New Year holiday. This is a standard non-working day for financial institutions, so any in-branch transactions will be unavailable. In addition, banks will be closed on 6 January 2026, on Epiphany, an important religious holiday that is celebrated annually in Cyprus.

What this means for customers and businesses
On public holidays, bank branches do not serve customers, so all important payments, transfers, and paperwork should be completed in advance. This applies to bill payments, rent, loans, and salaries. Online banking services and ATMs usually continue to operate; however, interbank transfers and international transactions may be processed more slowly than usual. To avoid delays and unnecessary concerns, experts recommend taking the holiday schedule into account when planning financial matters.
